Bull calves today sold to a top price of £470 for a weanable Aberdeen Angus cross from W&G Cornthwaite, Claughton on Brock with British Blue cross selling to £440 from E&J Redmayne, Winmarleigh and £425 from H&SD Cornthwaite & Son, Nateby. Rearing bulls sold to £390 for a British Blue cross from B&JM Crowe, Witherslack who sold Aberdeen Angus cross at £295. Dairy bulls sold to £195 for a Montbeliarde from GP Stott, Cloughton on Brock.
Heifers sold to £415 for a weanable British Blue cross from AW&AM Park & Son, Ellel who sold Aberdeen Angus cross at £390. Younger heifers sold to £290 for a British Blue cross from GP Stott, Claughton on Brock, with these sorts generally £220 to £280.


Steers sold to a top price of £1670 for Aberdeen Angus cross from TJ Lloyd Farm, Settle with a pen of four Aberdeen Angus cross from G Sagar & Son, Caton also achieving £1670. Other strong steers saw British Blue cross selling to £1660 from J&H Bland & Son Ltd, Levens and £1650 from SH&LE Birkett, Nether Kellet, with others regularly £1500 to £1620. Dairy bred steers sold to £1560 for Fleckviehs form J Prest & Son, Bay Horse, MRI’s selling to £1650 from J&H Bland & Son Ltd, Levens, Montbeliardes £1400 from J&JM Walmsley, Pilling and Holstein Friesians to £1380 from TJ Lloyd Farm, Settle. Younger steers sold to £1180 for fifteen month old British Blue cross from GA&A Atkinson, Cantsfield.
Heifers sold to a top price of £1700 for a British Blue cross from J&H Bland & Son Ltd, Levens who sold Charolais cross at £1550 and British Blue cross at £1510. Native sired heifers sold to £1520 for Aberdeen Angus cross from T&E Garlick, Freckleton with others at £1400 from L Parsons, Levens. The stronger end of heifers were regularly £1300 to £1450.
The monthly sale of farmers stirks saw steers sell to a top price of £900 for Aberdeen Angus cross from J Redmayne, Samlesbury with others at £860 from G&D Ball & Son, Little Eccleston and CE&MA Hewitt, Forton. British Blues sold to £850 from JA Sheering, Quernmore who sold Holstein Friesians at £650.
Heifer stirks sold to £700 for yearling Aberdeen Angus heifers from G&D Ball & Son, Little Eccleston with younger British Blue cross selling to £670 from Gradwell Farm Partners, Great Eccleston.
Feeding bulls sold to a top price of £1520 for strong Montbeliardes from WR&CM Lawrenson, Winmarleigh. An entry of six month old suckler Simmental cross bulls from R Eshborn, Lancaster sold to £800, with others at £860. More bulls are required each week.


An improved entry of cull cows saw an overall market averaged of 159p/kg. Heavy well fleshed beef cows sold to 234p/kg for a British Blue cross from AT Burrow & Son, Hornby with Charolais’s selling to 241p/kg from E&M Fairhurst, Austwick and Limousin cross also achieving 214p/kg form R&S Mitchell, Ellel. Other well bred beef cows were 185p/kg to 205p/kg, with first cross cattle suitable for finishing 160p/kg to 180p/kg. Top grossing beef cow was a Charolais from E&M Fairhurst, Austwick achieving £1719. Heavy well fleshed dairy cows sold to 179.5p/kg for a Fleckvieh from B&AC Barnes, Middleton with Montbeliarde at 169.5p/kg from WR&CM Lawrenson, Winmarleigh. Other better end dairy cows were 160p/kg to 165p/kg, with medium parlour types 135p/kg to 148p/kg and the leanest sorts 90p/kg to 110p/kg, depending on quality and type. Top grossing beef cow achieved £1367 from B&AC Barnes, Middleton.
OTM beef heifer sold to 244p/kg for a Limousin cross from M&RW Stirzaker, Milnthorpe with Hereford cross to 234p/kg from WS Burrow, Silverdale and AT Burrow, Gressingham. Other beef heifer were nicely 200p/kg to 225p/kg. Top grossing beef heifer achieved £1615 from AT Burrow, Gresssingham. Dairy heifers sold to 214.5p/kg for a Holstein Friesian from GA&A Atkinson, Cantsfield with others 207.5p/kg from W&C Gorst & Son, Ellel and 204.5p/kg from JT&V Fox, Quernmore. Leaner heifers were 175p/kg to 195p/kg. Top grossing dairy heifer achieved £1383 again from GA&A Atkinson, Cantfield.
OTM steers sold to 269p/kg and £1691 from M&RW Stirzaker, Milnthorpe.
Cull bulls sold to 149.5p/kg and £1577 for a Hereford from Ireland Farms, Kirkby Lonsdale.
