STORE CATTLE

Buyers were keen to secure all classes of store cattle, to keep the feeding shed full with well grown cattle in the keenest demand and those showing the effect of the recent weather trade perhaps a more cautious trade.
Steers sold to a top price of £1760 for a Limousin cross from JC Prickett, Mewith who sold others at £1740. British Blue sold to £1700 from JM Haddow, Hincaster with other strong steers regularly selling at £1550 to £1700, to include Aberdeen Angus at £1600 from H Birkett & Son, Overton and £1590 from T&E Garlick & Son, Freckleton. Dairy bred steers sold to £1500 for a Fleckvieh from AG Stafford, Out Rawcliffe with Montbeliarde to £1400 from J Lamb, Glasson. Holstein Friesian sold to £1350 from GR Park & Son, Whinfell. All steers today averaged £1320.
All heifers forward averaged £1130, selling to a top of £1660 for a Charolais cross from JM Haddow, Hincaster with Salers selling to £1660 from AT Burrow, Gressingham and Aberdeen Angus cross to £1490 from T&E Garlick, Gressingham. Stronger well grown heifers were £1300 to £1450. Younger heifers to £1140 for 16 month old British Blue cross from Barker Farms, Cockerham and others at £1110 from AG&GM Rowlinson, Carnforth.

CALVES & WEANLINGS

Another pleasing entry of 87 rearing calves, sold to top of £460 for a six week old Limousin cross bull from D&M Foster, Out Rawcliffe. British Blue cross sold to £435 from CR&A Baxter & Son, Morecambe and £415 from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale. Younger bull calves sold to £385 for a month old British Blue cross from DR&C Galbraith, Grayrigg with others at £375 from J Bargh & Son, Morecambe. Native sired bull calves sold to £405 for strong Aberdeen Angus cross from Cote Farm Partnership, Nether Kellet and J Bargh & Son, Morecambe. Younger sorts sold to £365 from Lawsons Farm Ltd, Cockerham, £335 from Pickervance Farm Ltd, Kirkham and Hereford cross to £325 from B&JM Crowe, Witherslack. Dairy bull calves sold to £165 for a seven week old Holstein Friesian from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale with month old selling to £135 from J Bargh & Son, Morecambe.
Heifer calves sold to £380 for a British Blue cross from Cote Farm Partnership, Nether Kellet with others at £350 and £345 from CR&A Baxter & Son, Morecambe. Limousin cross also achieved £345 from D&M Foster, Out Rawcliffe. Younger heifer calves sold to £310 for a Charolais from AD&R Milner, Claughton on Brock and British Blue cross selling to £295 from Pickervance Farms Ltd, Kirkham. Native sired heifers sold to £240 for Aberdeen Angus cross from B&JM Crowe, Witherslack.
24 weaned calves saw Hereford cross sell to £555 from TE&M Kidd, Ellel with twelve week old Holstein Friesian sell to £320 from J Bargh & Son, Morecambe.
Weaned heifers sold to £560 for Aberdeen Angus cross from AW&AM Park & Son, Ellel who also sold British Blue cross at £500 and other Aberdeen Angus cross at £440.

OTM / CULL CATTLE

121 cull cows forward sold to a top of 219.5p/kg for a young British Blue cross from AT Burrow & Son, Gressingham who also sold others at £1591. Other well bred beef cows were 188p/kg to 200p/kg, with medium type cows 150p/kg to 175p/kg, with many going for feeding. Top grossing dairy cow was a Holstein Friesian from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale selling at 169.5p/kg with others at 164.5p/kg from JM Maudsley & Sons, Endmoor and CJ&HM Parry, Cockerham, A&FM Bolland & Sons, Ellel and Kelsall & Wood, Scotforth. A large number of lean to medium parlour type cows forward, generally selling at 120p/kg to 140p/kg, depending on quality and type. Top grossing dairy cow was a Holstein Friesian from JM Maudsley & Sons, Endmoor achieving £1467.
OTM beef heifers sold to 264.5p/kg for Blonde from MJ Whitworth, Bolton le Sands with Limousin cross to 259.5p/kg from M&RW Strizaker, Milnthorpe and Aberdeen Angus cross to 234.5p/kg from J Bell, Wennington. Top grossing beef heifer achieved £1500 for an Aberdeen Angus from J Bell, Wennington. Dairy heifers sold to 199.5p/kg for a Holstein Friesian from RW Bainbridge & Son, Whittington who sold others at £1218.
Steers sold to 259.5p/kg and £1440 for a Limousin cross from JC Prickett, Mewith.
