Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Auction Mart Sale of Calves, OTM, Dairy Cattle and Store Cattle, Friday 2nd June 2023.

DAIRY CATTLE

A keen interest in the trio of dairy cows forward from R&K Jenkinson, Pilling with an abundance of buyers ringside taking advantage of the ability to do all their trading on one day. Third calved cows sold to £1950, with fourth calvers at £1750 and £1480.

The next sale is on Friday 16th June with an entry of six British Friesian new calved heifers already entered from one farm. A large number of dairy cattle has been traded privately this week, for all buying and selling requirements please contact Matthew Probert on 07540446667.

STORE CATTLE

Store cattle were a blistering trade from start to finish, with buyers competing for all classes and types. Steers sold to a top price of £1840 for a trio of Charolais x from R&EA Gardner, Briggsteer. Closely followed by another trio of Charollais x from EJ Ward & Sons, Nether Kellet selling at £1800. Other well grown steers were regularly selling between £1500-£1700. Native sired steers peaking at £1720 for Aberdeen Angus’s from R Collinge & Son, Kirkham. An entry of yearling British Blue x steers sold to £1080 from J&G Thornley Ltd, Kirkham. Dairy bred steers sold to £1420 for British Friesians from EJ Hodgson & Son, Lambrigg with Holstein Friesians selling to £1380 from K&DE Woodhouse, Ellel and Fleckviehs to £1280 from M Noblett, Preston.
Heifers achieved a top price of £1480 for Aberdeen Angus x from R&E Ladds, Kendal and British Blues x from K&DE Woodhouse, Ellel. Other stronger end heifers were regularly £1300-1400, to include Aberdeen Angus at £1400 from K&DE Woodhouse, Ellel. Ten month old British Blue x heifers from J&G Thornley Ltd, Kirkham achieved £960.
Another nice entry of feeding bulls sold to £1300 for Limousin x.

CALVES & WEANLINGS

Another quality entry of calves from a large number of farmer customers continued to sell to exceptionally high demand. British Blue x bull calves sold to £595 from AW&AM Park & Son, Ellel with others at £500 and £485 from T Barron Farms Ltd, Preston and £475 from JP&C Robson, Garstang. Native sired bull calves sold to £490 for Aberdeen Angus x from T Barron Farms Ltd, Preston who sold others at £445 and £435. Hereford x sold to £385 from J Gerrard & Son, Thurnham. Younger rearing calves sold to £380 for an Aberdeen Angus from D&K Haworth, Hambleton who sold others at £355. Young British Blue x sold to £340 from JE&J Pye & Son, Quernmore. Dairy bulls sold to £130 for a month old Holstein Friesian from D&K Howarth, Hambleton.
Heifer calves sold to £425 on two occasions for British Blue x from JP&C Robson, Garstang and Tom Barron Farms Ltd, Preston with others at £405 from JE&J Pye & Son, Quernmore. A bumper entry of native sired heifers saw the best sell to £345 for Aberdeen Angus x with others at £295, £280 and £270. Younger native sired heifer calves sold to £220 for an Aberdeen Angus x from RT Halhead, Cockerham.
Todays sale included the young handlers prize show and sale which saw Robert Standen, Lancaster win the first prize rosette with his British Blue steer, which went on to sell at £850. Thomas Anderton won the second price rosette which sold at £770.
Already entered for next week is 50 native and Continental weaned calves from three farms.

OTM CATTLE

NWA Lancaster once again is the leading Lancashire cull cow market, with customers in a attendance from through out the Northern Counties. Well bred beef cows sold to 254p/kg for a Limousin x with others regularly 235p/kg-240p/kg. Dairy cows sold to a top price of 239.5p/kg for a Montbeliarde with Holstein Friesian to 231.5p/kg. Other heavy well fleshed dairy cows were 202p/kg-215p/kg. All cull cows today averaged 201p/kg.
Top grossing cow today was a Simmental achieving £2012 with a future ten over £2000 and another nine over £1500.
Steers sold to 149.5p/kg and £2045 for a Limousin x with dairy bred steers selling to 239.5p/kg and £1441 for a Norwegian Red & White.
Heifers sold to 249.5p/kg for a Norwegian Red & White with a Saler achieving £1657.
Cull bulls sold to 229.5p/kg for a Limousin and £2167 for an Aberdeen Angus x.
