Prime Lambs
A bumper entry of prime lambs was forward today at Lancaster with 1173 selling to a strong trade from start to finish. An overall market average of 245p/kg achieved which included a large number of upland bred lambs.
Quality lambs led the way today, as 47kg Beltex lambs sold to £158 or 336p/kg from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale. Heavy weight lambs continue to sell to a premium at Lancaster, peaking at £153 for Suffolks from Ivan Slater, Claughton on Brock. Heavy weight Texel from R&DL Cornthwaite, Nateby sold to £149 and £144 with a consignment of heavy weight lambs from Sam Ayrton, Thurnham selling Texels to £148 and Suffolks to £147 and £145. Also breaking the £140 barrier at £142 was J&E Nuttall, Old Hutton followed by £141 from P&ME Higginson, Pilling. Plenty more pens sold in the mid to late one hundred and thirties. A larger number of upland lambs on the market today saw heavy weights in big demand, peaking at £137 for Mashams from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale. 52kg Mules sold to £130 and £129 from JR&LA Capstick, Killington with other leading priced for Mules being £126 from Ivan Slater, Claughton on Brock followed by 51kg Mules to £125 from JS&S Atkinson, Scorton and WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale. Well fleshed handy weighted lambs continue to regularly selling between 250-270p/kg.
Cast Sheep
Once again just over the one hundred cast sheep were forward, selling to a sharper trade. Leading the way was Beltex x ewes selling to £143 from R&DL Cornthwaite, Nateby. A consignment of Texel x ewes sold to £141 and £131 from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof followed by £128 and £127 from J Bargh, Heaton with Oxcliffe and £128 from R&B Parker, Killington with plenty more around the £120 mark. Mule ewes sold to £94 from KA Purtill, Wigan followed by £94 from T&L Kirkham, Eccleston. Horned ewes peaked at £90 from A Brown, Littledale followed by £81 for Scotch Black Faces from George Blacklidge, Wigan.
