Northwest Auctions had its monthly sale of dairy cattle on Tuesday 15th March which once again saw a high quality of new calved heifers and cows forward from local vendors. The pre sale show was judged by Miss Saffron Newsham, Conder Green who awarded the champion rosette to Pennine Crocus 297 shown by Messrs Drinkall Bros, Abbeystead with this heifer later selling to the judge for a final bid of £2100. The reserve championship rosette was awarded to the 1st prize cow Wyredale Jonas Marjorie 55 from MJ & H Atkinson, Quernmore. This cow fresh into her 2nd lactation and giving 38 litres sold at £2050.

Other heifers to break the £2000 barrier included Pennine Moonbeam 189 from Messrs Drinkall Bros along with Phoenix Princess Leia from AE & A Swale, Blackburn. Heifers of a more Friesian type sold to £2000 for Pennie Peace 872 from Messrs Drinkall, Abbeystead.
