Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Calves, OTM and Store Cattle - Friday 22th October 2021

CALVES & WEANLINGS

The weekly sale of calves at Lancaster saw the Autumn show of calves under 56 days old, kindly sponsored by Semex UK. This was expertly judged by Tom Panter, who we thank for his time. Taking first in the heifer class and also being awarded Champion today, was a Limousin heifers from T&A Chapman & Son, Heslington, which went on the sell at £360. The bull show class saw Barber Farms, Claughton-on-Brock awarded first place, which went on to sell to £290 with a British Blue. A Pickthall, New Hutton took second place, selling for £315 also with a British Blue. With third place being awarded to AD&RL Milner, Claughton-on-Brock, making it a clean sweep for British Blues and going on to sell for £380.
Away from the show classes, older Simmental bulls from JR Newsham & Son, Conder Green sold to £490, with 2 month old Charolais bulls from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale selling to an impressive £455, who sold others to £395. Younger well farmed calves today saw British Blue bulls sell to £315, at a month old from A Pickthall, New Hutton, with heifers at the same age selling at £200 from Barber Farms, Claughton-on-Brock. Aberdeen Angus Calves saw steers to £360 from EW&RM Towers, Hornby, with heifers at £180 from local and loyal Lancaster supporter JE&J Pye & Son, Quernmore. Dairy bred calves saw Fleckvieh bulls sell at £390 from JK&BJ Birkett, Morecambe. A consignment of steers from EW&RM Towers, Hornby saw Fleckviehs at £305 and Montbeliardes at £280. Younger Black and Whites sold to £110 from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyersdale.

STORE CATTLE

Lancaster had on offer 254 store cattle at their weekly sale. Which saw no real stand outs today, with all cattle selling to a competitive trade.
Bullocks
Topping the trade was TJ Lloyd, Settle with Charolais’s at £1470 and £1400, closely followed by EW&A Bradshaw, Poulton le Fylde selling to £1390 and £1370. Pilling Hall Farm, Pilling continue their good run, this week peaking at £1420 with their consignment of Aberdeen Angus’s. Limousin cattle sold to £1380 from TJ Lloyd, Settle. A consignment of British Blues from JD&GM Bracken, Garstang realised £1360 and £1320. M Shepherd & Sons, Pilling had a run of Herefords, which sold to £1210 and £1190. A pen of Montbeliarde cattle consigned by BL&D Banks, Preston reached £1190. In the Black and White section J Lamb, Old Glasson hit £1170 and £1100.
Heifers
TJ Lloyd, Settle run of Charolais sold to a top of £1420 and £1380. A pair of British Blues from J&O Galbraith, Endmoor peaked at £1290. JD&GM Bracken, Garstang topped the Aberdeen Angus’s at £1260. Hereford reached £1100 from R Oldfield, Carnforth. WJ&LA Barker, Arkholme sold to £1130 for Simmentals. EW&RM Towers, Hornby topped the Black & White section at £1090 and £1040, as well as the Montbeliarde section at £1090.

OTM CATTLE

Lancaster had forward 113 OTM cattle at their weekly sale, with the overall averaged at 128.5p. More numbers forward, with all classes selling to a sharper trade and the plainer types at realisation.
Topping the OTM sale today was a superb Limousin heifer consigned by TA Chapman & Son, Heslington realising £1614.23 or 239p/kg.
A smart Aberdeen Angus Bull from Pilling Hall Farm, Pilling reached £1529.61 or 159.5p/kg.
OTM cows peaked at £1289.68 or 171.5p/kg for a Limousin from TA Chapman & Son, Helsington. R&B Parker, Killington sold an Aberdeen Angus to £1194.98. In the Black & White section, SW&K Metcalfe & Son, Whittington sold to £1038.85 and to 184p/kg from Barker Farms Ltd.
An Aberdeen Angus bullock consigned by RG&B Lewis, Carnforth reached £1005.20 or 179.5p/kg.
