Prime Lambs

Lancaster had an increased entry of 934 forward selling to a stronger market average this week of 271p/kg. Once again nine active buyers forward at Lancaster ensuring all specifications of lambs were well bid, in which more numbers could easily be handled. It was great to see new and returning vendors leaving pleased today. Heavy weight Suffolk lambs led the way today peaking at £148 from James Park, Ellel purchased by Michael Lomax closely followed by £147.50 from HJ & BE Kelsall, Gressingham. Texel lambs peaked at £145 from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof with others to £143.50 from David Gardner, Brookhouse and £142 from M & L Preece, Kirkby Lonsdale. Dutch spotted lambs sold to a top of £137 KP Dagger, Catterall. Plenty of pens of heavy weight and well finished better confirmation lambs selling in the late one thirties today. Best conformation lambs regularly selling in the region of 300p/kg peaking at 312p/kg twice from BR & S Carter, Pilling.

Mules sold to a top £142 weighing 55kg from W & A Cornall, Barnacre followed by 49kg Mule lambs selling to £129.50 from JW Cornall & Sons, Bleasdale with all Mule lambs forward selling to an overall market average of £120.83.

Cast Sheep

A few more ewes on the market today in Lancaster saw 91 forward. Suffolk cross ewes lead the way selling to £120 from TB Carter, Preesall with others to £117 from G Blacklidge, Chorley. Mule ewes peaked at £109 from JE & J Pye, Quernmore with plenty of pens of Mules ewes selling in the nineties. Upland ewes saw Cheviots sell to ninety pound from J & SJ Riseborough, Warton with Horned ewes topping at eighty pound for Dalesbreds from FK & F Woodhouse, Scorton.

Store Lambs

The later the it gets in the season the more buyers come out of the wood work with a good number of buyers in the market forward to witness a good trade with an overall market average of £84.80. texel lambs peaked at £94 from J & SJ Riseborough, Warton followed by Charolais to £93 from JM Kelsal, Quernmore.
