May Dairy Delights sell to £2500 at NWA Lancaster

North West Auctions held its monthly collective sale of Dairy Cattle at Lancaster Auction Mart on Tuesday 18th May. A high quality catalogue of entries attracted a large crowd of local and travelled buyers, all keen to secure replacements from this renowned sale. All venders must be complimented on the quality of cattle presented at the sale, which was a wonderful advert for what Lancaster Dairy Sale offers.

Today we were pleased to welcome back the Pre – Sale Show, which was judged by Mr John Sanderson (Sandcrest) and kindly sponsored by Massey Feeds, Farmgate Vets and Paxtons.


The Show Champion was found from a wonderful line up of heifers, this heifer ‘Pennine Poppy 1524 shown by Drinkall Bros, Abbeystead. The Heifer was sired by Ladys – Manor Lamar.  The Reserve Champion was ‘Bilsrow Goodwhone Peg 3’ from Tomlinson Bilsrow Ltd, Bilsborrow. A special mention must go to the highly admired 1st place cow, ‘Goadsbarrow Sincere 52’, fresh into her 3rd lactation shown by A V Lord & Co, Aldingham.

A keen ringside of buyers saw all heifers forward experience competitive bidding with all cattle selling above vendors expectations.

The sale peaked at £2500 which was achieved on 2 occasions, firstly for The Show Champion ‘Pennine Poppy 1524’ from Drinkall Bros, Abbeystead. This was later followed by the Reserve Champion ‘Bilsrow Goodwhone Peg 3’ from Tomlinson Bilsrow Ltd, Bilsborrow. Other heifers to break the £2200 barrier were ‘Bilsrow Goodwhone Rolls 5’ achieving £2450 and ‘Pennine Poppy 1529’ selling at £2250. ‘Goadsbarrow Peach 26’ from A V Lord & Co, Aldingham met a final bid of £2150.

M J & H Atkinson, Lancaster sold ‘Wyredale Mardi Gras Kate 54’ at £1920 with this prize also achieving by Barber Farms, Claughton on Brock who sold ‘Highhopes Mayday Vackje A’. Cows sold to £2000 for the first prize ‘Goadsbarrow Sincere 52’ from AV Lord & Co, Aldingham.

The sale concluded with a pair of much admired bulls, which sold to £2100 for ‘Stardale Vitton from J Burrow & Son, Barton and ‘Phoenix Flower Power Red’ from A E & A Swales, Blackburn selling at £2000.
