Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Calves, OTM and Store Cattle - Friday 18th June 2021

CALVES AND WEANLINGS
Lancaster offered a great selection of calves and weanlings this week with 63 forward. The calf trade saw best quality calves a very strong trade and more required, with younger beef calves a slightly easier trade than the recent fierce traded we have experienced but still looking well sold. A cracking consignment from Lawsons Farm, Cockerham saw 6-week-old British Blue bulls sell to £540 and £480, other British Blue bull calves sold to £420 and £395 from J Hoggarth & Son, Slyne with other British Blue bulls achieving £395 from RT Halhead, Cockerham. All British Blue bull calves averaged £383. A large number of weanlings forward today saw 11-week-old British Blue bulls sell to £490 from Shuttleworth & Brown, Sedbergh with heifers from the same home achieving £420. Native weanlings met plenty of demand in Lancaster with Angus bulls selling to £440 from H & SD Cornthwaite & Son, Nateby, with Hereford bulls selling to £435 and £425 from TE & M Kidd, Lancaster. Black and White bulls saw weanling sell to £265 from H & SD Cornthwaite & Son, Nateby and all Back and White bull calves forward sold to an average of £145.63.

STORE CATTLE
Lancasters store cattle once again was met with a sharper trade this week, with store cattle numbers tighter nationwide and finishing buyers still requiring cattle to fulfil contracts. All cattle forward today averaged an impressive £1131. Angus bullocks led the way today, first selling to £1490 from JM & AG Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe also achieving £1490 was a pen of three Angus bullocks from W & A Cardwell, Stalmine. Other noted prices for Angus bullocks were £1380 for a pen of three from MS & G Mason, Kirkby Lonsdale, this was closely followed by £1350 from J Lamb, Old Glasson. Continental heifers sold to a top of £1340 from JD & DM Bracken, Catterall. A large quantity of forward short keep cattle easily sold between £1200 - £1300. Black and White bullocks sold to a top of £1280 from JM & AG Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe with others to £1110 from EE Thornton & Sons, Heaton-with-Oxcliffe.

OTM CATTLE
An increased number of 107 cast cows forward this week, selling to a market averaged of 150p/kg. The trade was sharper today with strong demand for processing meat, with the current warm weather. Limousin OTM heifers led the way today selling to 234.5p/kg from RG & H Preece, Roeburndale West followed by other Limousin heifers to 197.5p/kg from TW & G Hartley, Dent. Black and White feeding heifers sold to 197.5/kg from H Halhead & Son, Nether Kellet with others to 194.5 p.kg from DJ Townley, Ashton. Black and White feeding heifers sold to £1330 and £1310 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale. Beef cows sold to a top of 184.5p/kg for Limousins from J E Bracken, St Michaels. Beefs cows topped at £1500 for Angus’s and £1430 for Charolais from M Allen, Yealand. Best dairy cows sold between 160-170p/kg. Dairy cows topped at £1372 for Montbeliarde from RW & SA Nicolson, Lupton. Black and White dairy cows topped at £1302 from H & SD Cornthwaite & Son, Nateby, with others to £1263 from Gibson & Berry, Endmoor and £1212 from K & DE Woodhouse, Ellel. A larger number of cast bulls forward today saw Herefords sell to £1548 from SW & K Metcalfe & Son, Whittington and Aberdeen Angus bulls peaking at £1502 from M Allen, Yealand.
