Calves and Stirks

The weekly sale of Calves at Lancaster once again had an entry in excess of the sixty mark forward, which sold to another very respectable trade with fresh faces ringside. British Blue bull calves lead the way selling to £435 from JP & C Robson, Garstang followed by £425 from H & C Pickervance, Roseacre; others selling to £405 from Tom Barron Farms, Woodplumpton. Angus bull calves sold to a top of £395 from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale. Well reared beef bull calves once again selling in excess of the three hundred pound mark. Beef heifer calves regularly sold in the mid two hundreds. Black and White calves sold to a top of £180 and £160 from T & CM Kelsall and Sons, Chipping with others selling to £140 from M & E Forshaw, Thornley. Once again this week all Black and White bull calves averaged £115.43.

The monthly sale of Stirks at Lancaster had a strong entry of 136 forward. There was a strong trade throughout the sale, buyers were looking to purchase strong well grown stirks and stirks with plenty of growth about them. Yearling British Blue bullocks lead the way selling to a top of £920 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale with Angus bullocks selling to £915 from R Fare, Kirkham. Spring born Angus bullocks sold to £890 from G Metcalfe & Son, Gressingham. Hereford bullocks twice sold to £880 from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale and S Moore, Pilling. Plenty of bullocks selling in excess of the £800 mark. Heifers sold to a top of £875 for Herefords from Wallbank Farms with British Blues to £800 from J & MT Miller, Claughton on Brock.Bulls sold to a top of £635 for Fleckviehs from O & H Melling, Kirkham.

Store Cattle

There was a catalogued entry of 264 Store Cattle in Lancaster today, which saw Bullocks averaging £1,132.70 and Heifers averaging £950.13.

It was native sired cattle that led the way today with an Aberdeen Angus bullock from F K & F Woodhouse, Scorton hitting the top spot at £1,550, closely followed by a Hereford consigned by J Prest, & Son, Bay Horse which realised £1,480. A pair of quality Limousin bullocks from PM & ST Entwistle, Abbeystead topped at £1,480.

Heifers peaked at £1,280 for a pair of Charolais’ consigned by R & C Parkinson, Poulton Le Fylde. British Blues peaked at £1,240 from T & E Garlick, Freckleton. A pair of Limousin heifers from RW & EE Sudell, Kirkland realised £1,240 also.

Cast Cows and OTM Cattle.

Lancaster today saw over 500 cattle go through the 3 rings.

First to sell today was 122 cast cows, which saw a sharper trade with an overall market average of 134p/kg. The sale topped at £1,311 for a whopping Friesian cow from T Taylor, Woodplumpton. Other Friesians from T C Baldwin & Son realising £1,239. Beef cows topping at £1,244 for a Simmental from M & C Booth Ltd, Kentmere.

OTM heifers were a grand trade, a British Blue peaking at £1,344.99/209ppk from M Shepherd & Sons, Pilling and Friesians peaked at £1,203 from J Bargh & Son, Morecambe. Cast Bulls hit £1,210 for a Friesian consigned by G H Sanderson, Catforth.
More cattle required to fulfil buyers requirements.
