Lancaster Livestock Auction: Store Cattle - Friday 11th October

Store Cattle

There was an entry in excess 300 Store Cattle with a lot of weathered-looking cattle in the market today. Leading the way this week was Charolais bullocks selling to £1200 from DE & SM Moorhouse, Natland with Simmental bullocks selling to £1140 from ID Bailey & Son, Catforth. Limousin bullocks sold to £1110 from M & RW Stirzaker, Milnthorpe and £1100 from RG & H Preece, Roeburndale West. Native Cattle continue to be in strong demand at Lancaster selling to £1130 from JS Clark & Sons, Catforth with others to £1090 from RC Billington & Son, Claughton on Brock. Herefords topped at £1080 from J Hesketh, Hutton. Plenty more short-term bullocks sold in excess of £1050.

Heifers sold to a top of £1010 for Angus’ from EW & CR Clegg & Sons, Stalmine. British Blue heifers sold to £970 from TJ Robinson, Milnthorpe. Plenty more short-keep heifers sold in the mid nine hundreds.

OTM Cattle

There was a reduced entry of 140 Cast Cows forward this week, which saw a good show of beef cows selling to a nice trade. Black and whites saw good sorts eagerly bid for with plain cows selling to a similar trade. Topping the trade was an OTM Heifer from RW Nicholson, Lupton selling to 164.5p/kg or £1195. Limousin cows sold to 154.5p/kg from R & S Mitchell, Ellel and 147.5p/kg from JM & JJ Dawson, Littledale. Plenty more decent good beef cows selling around the 140p/kg mark. Best black and white cows sold to 124.5p/kg from JT & B Fox, Quernmore with plenty other better black and whites selling in the late teens and early one twenties. Beef cows sold to a top of £1210 for Angus’ from Norbreck Genetics, Cockerham. Limousin cows sold to £1076 from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof. Black and white cows sold to a top of £916 from Bradley Farms, Preesall.

Stock bulls this week topped at £1083 for Herefords from C & B Capstick, Kendal.

There was an overall market of 96p/kg.

Calves

There was a reduced entry of 43 calves forward this week selling to a similar trade. Leading the way was WG & RG Riley, Chorley selling Angus bull calves to £300 twice and £290. British Blue bulls sold to £280 and £275 from AW & AM Park & Sons, Ellel. British Blue heifers sold to £265 and £245 from JP & C Robson, Garstang. Dairy bull calves topped at £95 for Montbeliardes from Joylan Farms with Black and whites selling to £80 from CG Birkett, Carnforth.
