Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Store Cattle

Cast Cows and OTM Cattle

The weekly sale of Cast Cows and OTM Cattle at Lancaster had a similar number forward selling to a sharper trade with a market average of 124.9p/kg. Leading the way this week was OTM Angus steers from EE Thornton and Sons of Heaton selling to 179.5p/kg, closely followed by CG Birkett of Carnforth selling British Blue heifers to 177.5p/kg or £1121. Black and white cast steers sold to a top of 154.5p/kg or £958 from J & JM Walmsley of Pilling. Limousin OTM heifers sold to 174.5p/kg or £1111 from RHM &S Boyren of Ulverston who also sold Limousin cows to 159.5p/kg or £1162. Limousin cows sold to a top of 171.5p/kg from AG & GM Rowlinson of Killington. Beef cows topped at £1219 for Simmentals from Barlow Bros of Croston. Best dairy cows sold around the 130p/kg mark selling to a top of £1058 from MJ Fell of Whittington, with others to £1028 from Richmond Hall Farm of Cockerham and £1002 from L Burrow and Sons of Lower Tatham.


Store Cattle

There was an increase of 246 Store cattle forward selling to a very similar trade which is strong in comparison to the deadweight trade at the moment. Leading the way this week was JA and LR Wilson of Millom selling Limousin bullocks to £1260 who also sold Shorthorns to £1230 and £1220. Angus bullocks sold to a top of £1240 from BN Greenwood of Catterall with other Angus bullocks to £1170 from H Birkett and Son of Overton. South Devon bullocks sold to a top of £1190 from RH Dodgson of Burton in Lonsdale. The heifer trade was topped by M Shepherd and Son of Pilling selling British Blues to £1180 with others from the same home selling to £1120. Dairy bullocks topped at £1010 for Montbeliardes from GE & AP Hewitt of Cockerham with black and whites selling to £960 from L Parsons and Sons of Levens and from EJ Hodgson and son of Kendal.


Calves and Stirks

There was an increased entry of 70 Calves forward this week met by a strong trade for all ages and types of calves, with all vendors leaving pleased with their trade. Weanling British Blue bull calves sold to £440 from DJ Hay of Cockerham and British Blue heifers from the same home selling to £355. Younger beef calves saw British Blue bulls sell to £345 from Wannop Farms of Heaton with Oxcliffe, with Simmentals from the same home to £330 and Herefords to £320. Angus bull calves sold to £325 from Drinkall Bros of Over Wyresdale with other Hereford bull calves to £310 from TM Townley of Over Wyresdale and £300 at twenty days old from Mason of Birkland Barrow. British Blue heifer calves sold to £270 from CR & A Baxter of Middleton. B lack and whites saw weanlings sell to £235 from RH & RA Fawcett of Burton with others to £185 from DJ Hay of Cockerham. Younger black and white bull calves sold to £120 from GH Sanderson and Family of Kirkham with others to £115 and £110 from Drinkall Bros of Over Wyresdale with plenty of good rearing types selling in the region of £100.
