With a great line up of the usual quality that we come to expect from this tremendous sale, trade was rock solid throughout for the 48 animals that were consigned.
Leading the way in the sale was a superb heifer entered by Tomlinson Bilsrow Ltd, Bilsrow Mincio Shower 3 (lot 4). This heifer was a real head turner, with superb balance and a tremendous rear udder with terrific attachment and texture. This heifer was seriously milky and currently yielding 36.kg having calved on 20th October. Coming from 8 generations of very good or excellent there was unsurprisingly tremendous interest in this heifer with the hammer finally falling at £2,300 with the happy purchaser being F.Talbot & Co, Lower Alston Farm, Ribchester, Lancs.
Tomlinson Bilsrow Ltd had a wonderful line up of seven animals in total which included 1st prize cow for the day. Lot 1 Bilsrow Elias Lausine 2 with stacks of milk and eight generations of very good or excellent behind her had calved on 25th October and currently giving 43.kg was sold for £2,000 going to R.Oldfield, Brow Foot Farm, Yealand Redmayne, Lancs.
Back to heifers in milk and another highly sort after heifer was lot 42 entered by EH & R Eccles, Holt Farm, Holt Lane, Chorley. This heifer which took 3rd prize in the halter led class currently yielding 32.kg having calved on 6th October. With strong bidding, she was finally sold for £2,150 to E. Harrison, Woodhouse, Melkinthorpe.
It was great to welcome back to Lancaster F.G & M.R Martin & Son, Lords Plain, Levens. This registered heifer was a cracker with plenty of milk to boot. Currently yielding 32.kg having calved 17th October. This heifer claimed 1st place in the non- halter led heifer class and also took overall champion for the day. With a real eye for quality she was snapped up by F.Talbot & Co, Lower Alston Farm, Ribchester, Lancs for £2,000.
On to our regular vendor and strong supporter to the sale Drinkall Brothers of Catshaw Hall Farm. With seven heifers entered of real consistency with arguably the pick of the bunch lot 21, Pennine Poppy 1357 who took 3rd place in the non-halter led class, was a real clean dairy heifer recently calved on 4th November and giving 30.2.kg. She sold for £2,100 to J.E Walton & Sons, Fox Lane Ends Farm, Wrea Green, Preston, Lancs.
Onto the first place heifer in the halter led class and this went to B & V Swann, Carwood Vakram Jean 38 was a heifer with real strength that also went on to take reserve champion for the sale. Having calved on 2nd November and giving 30.kg With recently recorded F 4.6%, P 3.18% and 26 cells she was of real interest and eventually sold for £2,000 and heading to A.Bargh, Wood Close, Skelton.
