Store Cattle
A good entry of 270 Store Cattle in the market today, where trade continues to meet strong demand with cattle looking dearer than last week. The top price of the day was achieved by PM&ST Entwistle of Abbeystead for a pen of Charolais Steers selling for £1360. Closely followed by British Blue steers selling to £1350 and £1330 from JD&GM Bracken of Catterall. Black & White steers sold to £1160 from LA Bradshaw of Stalmine. Native bred cattle sold to £1280 for Aberdeen Angus steers from R Escolme of Bay Horse. All steers in the market sold to average £980.13. Heifers selling to £1280 for British Blues also forward from JD&GM Bracken, followed by others from A Thompson of Carnforth at £1200. All heifers sold to an average of £979.81.
OTM Cattle
A smaller entry of 67 Cast Cows forward this week, all selling well considering the ensuing Bank Holiday weekend. Cows sold to a top of 201.5p/kg from Wallbank Farms Ltd of Over Wyresdale or £1235.48 from EW&RM Towers of Hornby. OTM Heifers sold to a top of 184.5p/kg or £1199.25 from R&B Parker & Son of Killington. All cattle forward sold to an average of 136.55p/kg.
Calves and Stirks
There was a reduced entry of calves and stirks forward today selling to a very strong trade. Beef calves saw more sell in excess of £300, than under £300. Topping the trade today was a consignment of Angus bulls from Cornthwaites of Moors Farm selling to £375 and £370 with others to £350 and £330 from Wallbank Farms of Over Wyresdale. Black and whites, also from Wallbank Farms sold to £118.
A couple of stirks on offer this week saw Hereford steers at 11 months old selling to £665 from JR Newsham of Conder Green.
