Spring Lambs

There was, once again, in the region of 700 spring lambs forward in Lancaster selling to an overall market average of 186p/kg. Good conformation and well-finished, heavy weight lambs were a good trade and regularly around 200p/kg with better types selling in excess of this. Leaner types were harder to place this week. Topping the trade today was heavy weight Texel lambs from E Hartley of Hornby selling to £111 or 206p/kg. Plenty of good conformation lambs sold in excess of 210p/kg selling to 224p/kg from CD and HL Mason of Caton Green. There was still plenty of consignments of lambs averaging in and around 200p/kg. Suffolk lambs sold to a top of £101 from WN & D Smith of Cockerham.

Cast Sheep

There were fewer cast ewes on offer today selling to an equally as buoyant trade in which more could have been sold. The trade was topped by E Hartley of Hornby selling Texel ewes to £100. This was followed by Suffolk ewes to £88 from TB Carter of Preesall and Cheviot Mules to £88 from S Park of Aughton. Fitter Mule ewes sold in excess of £70 with fitter Mules also selling in excess of £50.
