Store Cattle
The Weekly Sale of Store Cattle, again, had a large entry of 354 forward, cattle carrying flesh and meaty sorts sold to a premium, with any lacking finish were harder to place.
Fifty one cattle sold in excess of £1200 with 26 of these being over £1300. Topping today’s trade at £1390 was, firstly, JB Moore of Allithwaite and also TE, JS & SA Carrutherers of Underbarrow both selling British Blue Bullocks. All Bullocks forward today sold to an average of £1025.
Native Cattle saw Aberdeen Angus Bullocks sell to £1380 from B & J Preston of Caton with Aberdeen Angus Heifers selling to £1280 from M Shepherd & Son of Pilling.
Black and White Bullocks sold to a top of £1150 from JM & AG Swarbrick of Preston.
Cast Cows
A bumper entry of Cast Cows forward this week, with 113 forward selling to an overall average of 116p/kg.
Today’s trade topped at 174.5p/kg for a Limousin Cow from TA Chapman & Son of Heslington who also made the top price per head for a Limousin Cow weighing 790kg making £1323.25
Cast Heifers topped at 159.5p/kg from C Hargreaves & Son of Morecambe for an Aberdeen Angus and again for a Limousin from RH & RA Fawcett of Burton.
Black and White Cows sold to 157.5p/kg from HJ Robinson & Son of Preston Patrick with all Black and Whites forward selling to an average of 107.5p/kg.
Calves
The weekly sale of Calves saw 45 forward which saw younger calves harder to place. Selling to a top price of £370 today was an Aberdeen Angus Heifer selling to £370 from David & Eileen Wallbank of Over Wyresdale closely followed by a Limousin Bull Calf selling to £360.
Native Heifer Calves saw Aberdeen Angus Calves sell to £350 again from David & Eileen Wallbank.
Black and White Calves sold to £180 from J Bargh & Son of North Farm.
There was a few Stirks in the market today which saw Hereford Bullock Stirks sell to £630 with all five forward selling over £600, and again from the same home saw Aberdeen Angus Bull Stirks sell to £570.
