Store Cattle
The weekly sale of Store Cattle at Lancaster saw another catalogued entry of over 400. This week’s trade saw meaty and quality type cattle sell to a sharper trade with all other cattle harder to place. Topping today’s sale at £1400 was MS Dugdale & Son of Tewitfield for a pair of Limousin Bullocks.
Native Cattle saw Hereford Bullocks sell to £1290 from A & E Clarkson and Son Ltd of Thurnham with Aberdeen Angus Bullocks sold to £1260 from JD & GM Bracken of Garstang.
Store Heifers sold to £1150 for a pair of Aberdeen Angus Heifers, again, from JD & GM Bracken.
Vendors are advised that the gates are open from 7 am and requested to get cattle forward as early as possible with fully completed paperwork to avoid queues.
OTM Cattle
A larger entry of Cast Cows forward this week with an entry of 124 forward. This week saw a mixed show of cows with Continental cows selling to a sharper trade and all others selling to a similar trade to the previous week. An overall market average of 111.49p/kg was achieved.
Best Beef Cows sold to 171.5p/kg from T Atkinson of Ulverston with the top price per head from JE & AC Clarke & Son of Melling selling a British Blue Cow to £1124.48.
OTM Heifers sold to 191.5p/kg from P & A Bell of Preston for a Aberdeen Angus.
A few Cast Bulls in the market today saw an Aberdeen Angus from JH Atkinson & Partners of Selside sell to 139.5p/kg, selling to the top price per head was SW & K Metcalfe, again, with an Aberdeen Angus selling to £1315.61
Calves & Stirks
The weekly sale of Calves saw a smaller entry forward this week. Good quality beef calves continue to be good to sell with young and plainer types harder to place.
Leading today’s Calf trade was a British Blue Bull Calf from Cornthwaite Moors Ltd of Poulton Le Fylde selling to £345.
Native Calves continue to sell well with Aberdeen Angus Bull Calves, again, from Cornthwaite Moors Ltd sell to £280. Hereford Heifer Calves sold to £310 from J & G Thornley of Poulton Le Fylde.
A run of British Blue Heifer Calves from Cornthwaite Moors sold to £290 with others at £260.
Best types of rearing calves were noticeably up on the week and desperately required next week to meet demand for new buyers looking to purchase fit rearing calves between 3 and 6 weeks old.
Friesian Bull Calves sold to £160 from J Bargh & Son of Heaton with Oxcliffe with others selling to £152 from Wallbank Farms of Over Wyresdale.
Just a dozen Stirks in today sold well considering the forage situation. Six month old Aberdeen Angus Steers sold to £450 from PS & H Eckersley of Preston.
