In-Lamb breeding sheep
In-lamb ewes to at £280, an average of £240.61
A full house for in-lamb sheep today with buyers wishing to capitalise on a flying trade for primestock. The largest consignment forward today from CS Long & Knipe, Back Barrow. With 147 forward consisting mainly of mules plus Texel x & Suffolk x available.
Trade was consistently strong throughout, but Mules were particularly sort after, topping out at £280, of which the Mule average came out at £250.93.
In lamb hoggs were also available today with a consignment from Daisy Riley topping out at a nice price of £192.
There was also a consignment of dry Masham gimmer hoggs which achieved £172 from W & J Penny.
Store Lambs
The final Thursday sale of the season averaged £118.44.
673 hoggs forward to finish off what has been a very successful season. Smaller long term hoggs were probably seen to be the best trade overall.
However, trade for heavy hoggs was by no means cheap. Topping todays trade was JA Chapman, Singleton for a pen of Beltex making £172.
Continental, Mule and Suffolk hoggs were a solid trade coming out at improved averages on the week. Long term lambs stole the show with Swaledale Lambs topping at £111 and averaging £87.91.
Rough Fells were the daddy of the horned sheep today however, with a top price of £122 from FB Dunning, Penrith. This category averaged £118.11 overall.
The store sale will continue of a Tuesday at 1pm before the prime sheep.
