PRIME HOGGS

1120 Prime Hoggs were forward, with a ring side of ten active buyers ensuring there was a flying trade. An overall averaged of 353p/kg was achieved with hoggs selling to £209 a head and 469p/kg.

- Texel to £200 from AG Butler, Hambleton.
- Beltex to £200 from KA Purtill, Wigan.
- Charollais to £200 from CS Long & Knipe, Ulverston.
- Dutch Spotted to £198 from AP Metcalfe, Crook.
- Mashams to £196 from WI&AM Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale.
- Mules to £180 from M&YS Barker, Halton.
- Cheviots to £175 from Stockdale Farms, Sedbergh.
- Rough Fells to £161 from AEA Harrison, Kentmere.
- Scottish Blackface to £160 from GM&A Jackson, Little Eccleston.
- Swaledales to £155 from WI&AM Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale.
- Dalesbreds to £149 from C Sayer, Longsleddale.

CAST SHEEP

Over 700 ewes were forward, selling to an ever-increasing trade. A new market record of £340 was achieved for a Texel ewe from PK&R Woof, Stainton with others at £305 from R&E Ladds, Kendal. Other pure bred ewes were regularly £170 to £210. First cross ewes were regularly £130 to £160, with mediums £110 to £1254 and smaller meated sorts £95 to £110. Mules sold to £142 from DJ Clark, Broughton in Furness with other heavies regularly £128 to £135, mediums £108 to £120 and smaller sorts £90 to £104. Pure hill ewes sold to £130 for Cheviots, £124 Rough Fells, £112 Gritstones, £96 Swaledale, £90 Scotch Blackface and £75 for Herdwicks. Goats sold to £120, with others at £104. Mediums hill ewes were regularly £65 to £75, with only the smallest and leanest less. All cull ewes forward averaged £92.

CAST RAMS

41 cull rams saw medium continentals sell to £156, with others regularly £130 to £150. Horned rams sold to £120, with others generally £85 to £105. Only the smallest and lighter weight rams were £70 to £90.
