North West Auctions were once again delighted to host the Annual Sale of Registered Fell Ponies on behalf of the Fell Pony Society.
The pre-sale show, kindly judged by Mrs C Wigley saw the Championship rosette awarded to Greenholme Quintessential, a black yearling colt by Greenholme Lancelot from Mrs C Fox and Mrs J Southwell, going on to sell for 1600gns. The Reserve Champion was Dalewin Zara, a black yearling filly by Lunesdale Black Ice from Mr and Mrs Edwin Winder of the Dalewin Stud, selling for 2,200gns.
A new trophy kindly donated by the Fell Pony Heritage Trust in memory of Isobel Potter to the highest priced colt foal was won by Mr GHB Mallinson with Hardendale Kingsman by Lunesdale Dixie who went on to sell for 2600gns.
The sale started with a bang as Lot 1, Holling Baby Anne, a quality 7 year old, ride and drive black mare sold for 6500 gns. Drybarrows Fordingdale, a 3 year old gelding by Banksgate Jupiter selling for 4800 gns and Lunesdale Richard II, a 3 year old licenced stallion sold for 2500 gns.
Top priced foal was a very smart, showy filly from AW Morland, Lunesdale Esther, selling for 2900 gns. Craig Mallinson sold Midtown Rebecca for 1600 gns, Dalewin Armani from E & H Winder sold for 1400 gns and Lyndarick Gracie from RG & L Potter sold for 1000 gns
All foals sold averaged 604 gns with a clearance rate of 77%.
Following on from the Fell ponies was the sale of registered and part-bred mountain and moorland ponies which included the sale of 80 registered Shetland ponies.
The Dales pony section was topped by a mare and foal, Colliery Cinders III and Colliery Lizzie the last filly foal from the Collliery stud selling for 2800 gns from Mrs J Urwin. The Welsh section was topped by Autumns Rowan from k Cooper, a 4 year old, newly broken Section D gelding selling for 4200 gns, followed by Westfirle Red Knot from Megan Cookson, a 6 year old gelding who had already competed at the Royal International who went on to sell for 2300 gns. Mr CJ Anderson sold a very smart, showy 2 year old dun Section A filly at 2000gns and Mr A Halstead sold Butterscotch Bella, a 6 year old part bred Section A mare at 1900gns
The large registered Shetland section was topped by a smart 3 year old licenced stallion, Hermits Inky Black from the renowned Hermits Stud who went on to sell for 2000gns. Selling for 1500 gns was Frobridge Samson, a piebald stallion from Mr A Halstead and also Hermits Bonnie, a 4 year old spotted Shetland from Mr R Grieveson.
Shetland foals topped at 1350gns for Talog Daisy May a miniature dun and white filly from AM Jones who also sold Talog White Fantasy, a miniature cremello filly for 1150gns, Talog Rambling Rose a piebald miniature filly at 1050gns and Talog Golden Rose1000gns.
