Champion prime pigs sell to new market record at NWA J36 Anniversary sale.
North West Auctions celebrated the tenth-year anniversary of the relocation to the J36 Auction Mart site today, we would like to thank all customers past and present for their support and look forward to the years ahead. North West Auctions held its ten year anniversary prize show and sale of pigs on Tuesday 14th February which saw an outstanding show of quality pigs presented before our judge Mr G Watkinson of Red Bank Farm Shop, Newton Le Willows. The Championship Rosette was awarded to a pair of 110kg Pietrain x Large White x gilts from Mr J Stott, Crosscrake which later sold to a new market record prize £340, each secured by the judge as a treat for his customers at Red Bank Farm Shop, Newton Le Willows. The second prize pair was awarded to Mrs Wendy Stamper, Chipping for a pair of Large White x gilts achieving £220 with the third prize pair of Saddleback x Pietrain gilts from BR Harrison, Staveley achieving £195, all being purchased by the judge.
Away from the show prime hoggs sold to £198 for a pen of four Gloucestershire Old Spots x Pietrian from C Woodhouse, Nateby who sold gilts at £190. Other heavy weight gilts sold to £185 from GG&MA Long, Pennington and £182 from W Stamper, Chipping. All prime pigs today averaged 130p/kg with buyers expressing the keenest interest towards well finished hogs and gilts and showing caution towards coloured pigs and boars.
Cull sows sold to £115 from S Burke, Edgworth with others at £110 from SP Phoenix, Lea Town and £105 from R Browell, Capheaton.
Stores and weaners were a selective trade for an entry comprising of nearly all boars. Weaners sold to £37 from T Harrison, Darwen with store boars £20-£24 from S Higgins, Ulverston. As with the prime pigs, buyers were very cautions towards boars and the smallest sorts.
