For the opening sale of store lambs at North West Auctions Junction 36 there was a large number of medium of long-term lambs forward. The busiest ring side seen for an opening sale of store lambs saw good support from local farmer buyers, as well as a number of travelled buyers ring side. A shortage of short keep lambs on the market saw best pens sell in excess of the £100 mark. Shapey Texel lambs sold to a top of £113.50 from JT&A Armistead, Selside with a pen of strong Texel lambs from RI Dixon, Low Newton selling to £112. Texel lambs sold to £109.5 from MD&SA Park, Lyth Valley with Texel lambs from G Hargreaves, Scotforth also selling to £109.50. Medium keep Beltex lambs sold to £99 from JC&E Pedley & Sons, Sedbergh. Plenty of pens of lambs regularly sold in the nineties. Mule lambs were in big demand today peaking at £85.50 from E Parker, Mewith with other pens of Mules to £80.50 from B Wilson, Selside. Pens of medium-term lambs regularly sold either side of the eighty pound mark, with long term Continental lambs making the best trade of the day regularly selling in the early seventies. It was commented today by buyers that pens of lambs were very mixed in size and confirmation and would be at an advantage to vendors to correctly sort lambs, if assistance is required a member of the NWA team would be more than happy to assist.
