Prime Pigs (47)
Prime pigs today saw a top price of £122 for Tamworth x Pietrain hogs from Thomas Brannen, Temple Sowerby who sold gilts at £102. Berkshire boars from B Capstick, Sedbergh sold to £100 with Large Whites selling to £92 from D Lord, Preesall. Lighter weight gilts sold to £82 from W Stamper, Chipping.
A top p/kg of 127p/kg was again achieved for Tamworth x Pietrain hogs from Thomas Brannen, Temple Sowerby with other well finished white pigs 100p/kg – 115p/kg with coloured pigs and boars a more selective trade with buyers showing preference to white pigs and gilts and hogs.
Stores and Weaners (69)
There was an increased entry in this sale section with a wide variety on offer. Well grown and level groups of pigs attracted the keenest interest with Large White x store gilts selling to £44 from R Taylor, Lancaster with Saddleback x store gilts from R Dick, Freckleton selling to £22.
Weaners sold to £20 for Gloucester Old Spot x from S Lawton, Carnforth with Saddleback x also achieving £20 from J & SA Barton, Barnacre.
Cull Sows and Boars (23)
The largest entry of culls seen for several months with heavy and well fleshed sorts selling to keenest interest; with 4 buyers competing for culls and demand for 20+ at each sale.
Sows sold to £95 and £92 from W Stamper, Chipping with others generally £33 - £75.
Top p/kg of 50p/kg was achieved for a young sow from N Race, Eskdale with others generally 22p/kg – 30p/kg with all cull sows averaging 26p/kg.
Cull boars sold to £65 and 39p/kg from Holts Farm, Bromley Cross.
Vendors are strongly encouraged to pre-enter pigs to assist the Auction with canvassing customers.
