The first pig sale in November saw 75 forward, with an ever-increasing number of buyers and sellers from throughout the Northern Counties and Scotland. Vendors are encouraged to continue to pre enter pigs to allow for promotion of the sale.
Prime pigs sold to a top price of £145 for a Tamworth gilt from EA Harrison, Penrith who sold others at £140. Heavy weight Large White gilts from E Lawson, Sedbergh sold at £108, with medium weight gilts to £99 from JM Navesey, Blackburn. Prime hoggs sold to £138 for Large White x from A Prickett, Farlton, with British Lop x hoggs from GM&DJ Pye, Arkholme achieving £110. Buyers were keen to secure well finished pigs with gilts and hoggs selling to a premium.
A top p/kg of 121 was achieved for a pen of Large White x gilts from JM Navesey, Blackbur, with prime hoggs to 120p/kg from A Prickett and prime boars to 93p from AP Simth, Brookhouse. All prime pigs today averaged 105p/kg.
After the bumper entry from the last sale, there was only one cull sow forward today selling to £55 and 25p/kg from P Crayston, Ulverston.
Weaners and stores continue to attached keen interest, with store pigs selling to £54 for Large White x boars from E Nickson, Preston with weaners achieving £28 from R Nettleton, Penrith.
