The first April sale of pigs saw a fast trade for all classes and types with buyers present and keen to fill orders.

Prime pigs sold to a top price of £142 for Pietrain x gilts from B Harrison, Staveley who sold others at £126 and £125. Prime hogs sold to £98 for Large White x from D Lord. Top p/kg of 158p/kg was achieved by B Harrison with all Prime pigs sold averaging 122p/kg.

Cull sows sold to £170 from NJ Wilkinson Barrow in Furness with others £150 from TS Wilson, Cockermouth and £140 W Stamper, Chipping.

A young Pietrain boar attracted keen interest from breeders selling for a final bid of £145.

Stores sold to £64 for Pietrain x from NJ Wilkinson, Barrow in Furness with Large White x achieving £56 from JM Navesey, Darwen.

Weaners sold to £32 for Large White x gilts from M Eastham, Dalton with others achieving £18
