North West Auctions Lancaster held its annual sale of Mule Gimmer Lambs on Wednesday 16th September that were met by plenty of demand from both local and travelled buyers, selling to an overall market average of £105.51 which is £28 up on the year. Compliments must go to our vendors for the strong show of lambs, with many consignments of tupping lambs.
The pre-sale show was judged by Mr Nigel Barker, Burton-in-Kendal and Mr Alan Collett, Culworth who we thank for their time. The Alf Burrow Cup for the best pen of ten was awarded to AC & K Pye, Abbeystead these later went on to sell for the days top price of £165 purchased by the judge Mr Alan Collett. The first prize pen of twenty was won by W & A Cornall, Barnare, who also went on to win the second prize pen of twenty. These sold to £124 and £112, respectively.
Pens of ten Mule gimmer lambs twice sold to £155 from AC & K Pye and JS & S Atkinson, Scorton. This was followed by £152 from RH & C Ayrton, Abbeystead, £150 from W & A Cornall and £145 from T Ayrton & Sons, Over Wyresdale. There was plenty of pens of strong tupping lambs selling between £120 and £130. The next size down lamb regularly sold around the £100 mark.
The £50 prize for the highest average for 50 lambs, which does not include a prize pen, was awarded to W & A Cornall who averaged £119.32.
