North West Auctions J36 held its annual Ambleside Show & Sale of Store Lambs on Thursday 24th October. There was a record number of Store Lambs forward with an entry of 4774 selling to a strong trade throughout the sale. Thanks go to our pre-sale judge Mr S Dorey, Lincoln who awarded the Champion rosette to the first prize pen of 20 Continental lambs from BJ Bowness, Kendal, these Beltex lambs later sold for £66. The Reserve Champion was awarded to Messrs Hodgson, High Borrans with a pen of Mules selling to £64. Texels sold to a top of £72 from High Wardes Farm, Sedbergh with a pen of Texels selling to £69 from JT Procter, Flookburgh. Plenty more pens of short keep lambs sold in the mid to late sixties. All Texels forward averaged £56.16. Beltex lambs sold to a top of £68.50 from AE Atkinson & Son, Endmoor. Charollais lambs topped at £67 from BR Harrison, Windermere with Suffolks selling to £67 from J & R Bell, Crook. All Suffolks forward averaged £57.24. Cheviot sired lambs sold to a top of £61.50 from RI Dixon, Low Newton. Best Mule lambs sold in the region of the £60 mark with an overall market average for Mules of £53.93.
There was a good show of horned lambs forward today met with plenty of demand. Rough Fell lambs sold to a top of £52 and £49.50 from I & J Mallinson, Selside. Scottish Blackfaces sold to a top of £46.50 from DP Escolme, Gatebeck with Swaledale Lambs selling to a top of £43 and £42 from Forest Hall Farm Partnership, Selside and £42.50 RA Walton, Torver. Plenty of pens of strong horned lambs selling around the £40 mark. All horned lambs forward averaged £38.57.
All lambs forward today averaged £52.82.
