Prime Lambs
The weekly sale of Prime Lambs had an increase entry of 678 selling to a strong trade with an overall market average of 200p/kg, an SQQ of 204p/kg with handy weights averaging 209p/kg. Topping the market today was Beltex selling to £111 or 258p/kg from Bargh Contractors, Heaton with Oxcliffe followed by the consignment from GR & A Foy, Conder Green selling to £107 and £101 or 255p/kg or 253p/kg. Other Beltex lambs sold to £98 or 251p/kg from J Smith, Stanley Farm. Texel lambs peaked at £110 and £106 from T Smith, Pilling with TM Townley, Over Wryresdale selling to £107 and heavy weights from W Bradley, Goosnagh selling to £105.50. Texel lambs sold to £105 from AG Butler, Hambleton, Bargh Contractors, Heaton-with-Oxcliffe and W Garnett & Son, Milnthorpe. Heavy weight Charollais lambs sold to £104 and £100.50 from P Lawrenson & Son, Chorley. Plenty more pens of Texel and Charollais lambs sold around the £100 mark. Suffolk lambs sold to £95.50 and £93.50 from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale. Hill bred lambs saw horned lambs sell to £86.50 from WM Pye, Ashton with Stodday with Mules from the same home achieving the same price. Other Mule lambs sold to £85.50 from AG Butler, weighing 44kg with the consignment from JW Cornall & Sons, Bleasdale selling to £85. Handy weight lambs, weighing mid to late thirties, were in strong demand and regularly sold over 200p/kg.

There was a larger entry of 151 cast sheep which were met with very strong demand with fresh buyers present. Leading the way was Texels from J Smith selling to £109 and Beltex ewes to £99 from the same home. Texel ewes from P Lawrenson & Son sold to a top of £107 and £106. The tup trade topped at £107 for a Leicester from JW Cornall & Sons, Bleasdale. Lonk ewes sold to a top of £100 from T & L Kirkham, with others from the same home selling to £89 and £87. Mule ewes sold to a top of £88 from FK & F Woodhouse, Scorton.
