Calves

Another large entry of 86 calves were greeted with a ringside of buyers keen to secure replacement stock. Beef bulls sold to £340 for British Blue x from Whitestone Farm with others £240 to £280. Younger bulls were £170 to £230. Heifers topped at £310 for Limousin x from S Mawson & Son with other strong sorts selling between £220 and £280. Younger beef heifers were £130 to £200 dependent on type and quality.

Dairy bulls sold to £92 for nice rearing FKV from Messrs Sowerby with others £75 to £85. Black and white bull calves topped at £95, mediums were £50 to £70 with smaller and younger sorts £15 to £35.

Cast Cows/OTM Cattle

The sale topped at 159p/kg for an OTM steer from The National Trust who also sold heifers at 124p/kg. Heavy beef cows sold to 124p/kg for a Limousin x from GM Redmayne with medium meated feeding type cows generally 105p/kg to 115p/kg with leaner sorts 85p/kg to 100p/kg. Dairy cows sold to 117p/kg for FKV from WH Kitching & Sons with others generally 60p/kg to 75p/kg for leaner parlour type cows.

Top grossing today was £961 for a Limousin x from GM Redmayne.

Store Cattle

A nice entry of cattle were forward for a mid-November sale with a wide range of ages and types on offer. The strongest steers sold to £970 for 28-30 month old named sire Hereford x steers from JE Wightman who sold others at £915. Galloway x steers to £840 (20 months old) from PG & PD Airey. Yearlings sold to £930 for Limousin x steers from Barn Hey Farms Ltd with others £820 from E & S Bower. Several sucklers were forward and keenly bid for with 6 month old Simmental x to £685 from W Caley & Son.

Heifers topped the market today achieving £1000 for Limousin x from CB Farming. Stronger heifers achieved £840 for Hereford x from JE Wightman with Limousin x to £800 from ET Moorhouse. Yearling heifers achieved £670 for Limousin x from R Keith with others at £650. Suckler heifers topped at £655 for Blonde x from C R Alderson & Son with Simmental x achieving £630 from W Caley & Son. A nice pen of 6 month old Angus x heifers from RJ & J Gardner achieved £540.

Young bulls were keenly bid for with 6 month old Limousin x from RI Dixon selling at £685 (x 2), £675 (x 4).
