Calves
The last calf sale of 2017 had a smaller entry of calves forward today with the sale close to Christmas. There was a strong trade for beef calves, which were eagerly bid for as plenty of buyer’s were ringside for beef calves with black and whites harder to place.
Beef calves saw best British Blue bulls selling in excess £300 topping at £315 from JM Barton & Son of Lupton Hall and £310 from DR & C Galbraith of Sunny Bank. There was plenty of young beef bull calves selling in to late £200’s. There was only young black and whites in the market today with the majority under three weeks of age. Best black and white’s a fortnight old were selling to £50 and bobby calves were bad to sell.
OTM and Cast cows
There was a smaller entry of cast cows today but all were well bid for topping at 134.5p/kg for British Blue cows from Forest Hall Farm. Best black and whites sold to 111.5p/kg from J Scott & Co of Middle Birkby Farm.
