486 CATTLE SOLD TO 64 BUYERS
North West Auctions Lancaster experienced yet another strong trade for all classes of stock at its popular weekly sale.
A sale entry of 317 store cattle sold to a ringside of buyers with several old faces returning. Fred Barnes, once again, sold the top price steer for £1380 (Char x) purchased by Rod Owen of Bold, with Lim x and Ang x to £1340 from L Parsons & Sons, Levens, and Ang x heifers sold to £1190, £1120 for Char x from Richard Greenwood. Younger grazing cattle sold to £830 for heifers from J E & A C Clarke. A small show of feeding bulls sold to £1000 for best suckler bred bulls from Peter Cummings. Cows and calves sold to £1380 from Barlow Brothers.
Cast/OTM cattle saw three quarters of the cattle forward being dairy cows with most in out of parlour condition. Best meated cows sold to 159.5p/kg (£1116) for HF from E W & R M Towers. OTM heifers sold to 174p/kg (£1012) from H & A Stephenson with steers 181.5p/kg (£1052) from D M Bargh.
Another pleasing entry of calves and stirks sold to the recent high prices with Lancaster, again, ahead of other local centres. Young beef calves sold to £510 for Lim x bulls from G & I D Postlethwaite and £490 from W G & E Sutcliffe. Heifer calves sold to £295 for Lim x from J E & A C Clarke. B & W sold to £180 from Drinkall Bros., with 1/3 forward over £100, all averaging £85.
