PRIME HOGGS A STRONGER TRADE THIS WEEK AT KENDAL
North West Auctions Kendal had an entry of 545 prime hoggs that averaged nearly 203p/kg for all classes on offer. Hoggs weighing 39-45kg were in strongest demand and were easiest sold averaging 205p/kg. Prime hoggs topped at 223p/kg from B J Bowness, Bellingham for a pen of Texels. The top price of the day was for Suffolk hoggs from LA & M Lambert, Brow Head which sold for £105 to Lancaster Meats.
Cast Ewes were a marvellous trade with over 200 ewes averaging over £69 per head. Meaty ewes were in good demand with continental ewes regularly around the £100 mark. Pens of big Mule ewes were regularly in the late £80s & early £90s and strong Swaledale ewes in the late £50s, early £60s. Roughs were making slightly more than this. Texel tups sold to £125 from J & M Wilson, Cooper House and Texel ewes were twice to £115 from S Mawson & Son, Moor House and C Douthwaite, Moor House.
