NEW STORE CATTLE RECORD PRICE AT LANCASTER
Lancaster’s strong start to the New Year continued in fine style this week, a new record price of £1510 went to Messrs TD & A Gardner, Larbreck Hill for an outstanding Charolais bullock which met strong competition before reaching the new record. Heifers were also in great demand topping at £1140 to R Escolme, Ivy Barn. The general store cattle trade was very strong throughout with once again buyers drawn from throughout the country.
Another excellent entry of 138 head of cast cows & over thirty month cattle through the ring with cows averaging 118p/kg topping at 157.5p/kg to JA & M Mawson, Sproat Ghyll for a Limousin cow. Cows also topped at £1157.20 to EW & RM Towers, Holme Head. OTM heifers sold to a top of 181.5p/kg for a Limousin from ST Birkett, Hall Croft Barn and OTM steers sold to 187.5p/kg for a Hereford from S Hancock, Little Tunstall Farm.
The Friday morning sale of calves and stirks continues to gather momentum with another excellent entry of 53 head including a greater consignment of Black & White bulls. Young calves topped at £320 for a British Blue heifer and bulls £340 for a Limousin, both of them presented by FW Rhodes & Son, Barrow Greaves. The trade for Friesian bull calves continues to increase and these found at top of £125 for Friesian bull calves on the day with most Black & Whites selling for between £40 to £70. In the stirk section, once again there was tremendous competitive bidding for all types. Messrs Young, Moss End Farm sold the top price bullock stirk which was a Limousin at £540 they also sold the top price heifer stirk twice achieving £470 for Angus x stirks.
