CHAMPION RAM SELLS FOR £700
North West Auctions Lancaster Mart held their Annual Show & Sale of Breeding Ewes & Rams which attracted a large entry of stock with several new vendors present and an active ringside of 85 purchasers keen to secure stock ensuring a strong trade throughout the sale.
The day started with the annual show & sale of Suffolk rams and ram lambs which were judged this year by Mr John Nuttall of Dorset who had a great show of rams presented before him. The Championship of the day was awarded to a Shearling ram presented by S Mellor of Stoke-on-Trent (photo 1 shows Hannah Woodall of Alflex (sponsors) John Nuttall (judge) and Mr Mellor (vendor). The ram later went on to sell for the day’s joint top price of £700 to the judge. Standing in reserve was a ram lamb consigned by G Owen of Anglesey which sold for £420 to J Bargh & Son. A large show of 122 rams sold to a keen ringside of buyers with other noteable prices being £700 for a Beltex x Shearling from ST Birkett, Hall Croft Barn, £650 for Texel Shearling from JT & J Kelsall, Cold Cotes and Suffolks to £600 (x3) from JH Towers & Sons, Tunstall.

BREEDING EWES & SHEARLINGS
The Annual Show & Sale of Mule Shearlings saw a fantastic entry of sheep presented before the judge Mr John Garnett of Kendal who awarded the first prize to Ashley Wilson, High House (pictured above). These later sold for £190 to W Garnett & Son. The day’s top price of £220 was achieved for a pen of 10 Mule Shearlings presented by JK & BE Townley, Mearsbeck and these were purchased by C Jackson, Forgelands. A feature of the sale was three part flock dispersals. H P Armitage sold strong 2 crop Mule ewes to £128. AG Butler sold 1 crop Texel ewes to £170 and CB Hoggarth sold Texel ewes to £152.
