SPECIAL SALE OF BEEF BREEDING CATTLE
187 HEAD OF CATTLE SOLD NATIONWIDE
This much anticipated sale did not disappoint with buyers present from both the adjacent counties and further afield. A feature of this sale being the Second Annual Production Sale of Stabiliser Cattle from several local herds. These topped at £1440 for a 2nd calved cow with bull calf at foot from A Dixon & Son, Kit Cragg followed by JA & R Geldard, Low Foulshaw Farm selling a 3rd calved cow with bullock calf for £1420. The production sale averaged £1220 with 14 lots exceeding £1300.
Earlier in the day the sale of breeding bulls attracted keen bidding with young Limousin bulls selling to £1580 from RH & C Ayrton, Ouzelthorn.
A smaller show of commercial breeding cattle being predominantly older cows with young calves sold to a solid trade in line with other local centres. Top price of the day was £1500 for a Limousin x cow with bull calf from EJ Hodgson & Son, Lambrigg Head Farm with most lots regularly exceeding £1000.
