Second Gimmer Lamb Sale & Sale of Store Lambs
North West Auctions Kendal Mart had a pleasing entry of over 1700 lambs forward at the sale with all lambs selling to their full value in line with other centres. Mule gimmer lambs topped at £100 on two occasions from MW Parsley, Roundthwaite and M & G German, Sowermire (photo shows the pen from from Messrs German). Continental gimmer lambs were also sold today topping at £90 for Texels from FI & ME Little, Helm Croft. 544 gimmer lambs averaged £68 with most being late born running lambs.
1201 store lambs sold to a competitive trade with all vendors pleased with prices achieved. £69 was the day’s top price for Suffolk x lambs from I & ME Aksew, Raw Head. Charollais x to £65 from JA Chapman, North Lodge. Short keep lambs regularly £57+, middle keep £53-£57 with long keep hill bred lambs £46-£52. A large crowd of buyers with several new faces were all keen to purchase stock with many leaving unable to fill their orders.
