An excellent entry of 251 cattle sold to a solid trade with a ringside full of buyers all with orders to fill throughout the North West. Well fleshed cattle were in the greatest demand with all types easily sold. Steers averaged £752 selling to a top of £1060 from H Gorst & Son, Shaws Farm.
Heifers averaged £728 selling to £1040 from TE & BM Makinson, Holmegarth. A small entry of breeding cattle saw cows & calves sell to £1100 from J & S Holmes, Scotforth.
The weekly sale of calves were mainly younger black & whites with buyers being a bit more selective. Top price of the day was £355 for a BB x Bull from Wallbank Farms Ltd. Calves do benefit from having age and strength.
Earlier in the day an excellent trade was seen for the cast cows. The 73 on offer were all easily sold with top price of the day being £816 from T & M Halhead, Upp Hall.
The weekly sale of store lambs continues to attract buyers and many more can easily be sold at Lancaster Auction Mart. Top price of the day was for a pen of Charollais x from Ashton Agricultural selling for £55.
