Best Entry of Prime Lambs at Kendal For Weeks
An excellent entry of 2405 prime lambs went through the ring on Tuesday. Standard weight lambs upto 40kgs were in great demand to average161p/kg selling to a top of 182p/kg for quality Texel lambs from EA Harrison, Scarside these were purchased by Jim Hadwin butcher of Mansergh. Heavier lambs were harder to sell averaging 154p/kg and selling twice to a top price of £80 per head for Charollais lambs from WS Burrow & Son, Gibraltar Farm and these were purchased by Mr J Stott Jnr butcher of Stainton & Mr M Lomax respectively.
A reduced entry of 384 prime ewes met a rising market for all breeds and types. A top price of £90 was achieved by Messrs Holden Partnership, Cragg House Farm for a pen of Texel ewes.
