Prime Lambs

A slightly bigger draw of Spring Lambs with 132 passing through the ring and a 100% clearance being achieved. Topping the trade at £94 was PD Anderton, Scorton with 3 nice Texels at 46kg. Top pence per kilo of 211ppk came from WN & D Smith, Cockerham with Suffolks and PW & DW Roskell, Pilling with 38kg Charollais. A slightly sharper average of 191ppk was achieved.

Prime Hoggs

A bigger show of Hoggs for Lancaster with 271 forward, well fleshed hoggs sold well, topping at 202ppk from J & H Davis, Cabus with a smart pen of 14 Cheviots. Top price per head came from T & CMN Kelsall, Chipping with a pair of 55kg Texels realising £98. A run of well finished hoggs from J Fryars sold well, with Texels at £93 and Swales at £78. Overall average of 168ppk.

Cast Sheep

Just shy of 80 Cast Sheep forward. Mules sold to £77 for a pair from A & FM Bolland & Sons, Ellel. Texels and Suffolks to £86 from T & CM Kelsall & Sons and BD Wood.

Breeding Sheep

The Spring Show and Sale of Hoggs with Lambs at Foot had a good entry of just shy of 170 families forward. The pre-sale show saw RG & H Preece, Thornbush take the 1st Place Mules and Overall Champion Rosettes, which later sold to £175. An entry of good commercial sheep forward were met by a ringside of cautious buyers and saw best sorts in excess of £150 for Mules with singles and plainer types £130-£145. In the Continental class, Tony Chapman, North Lodge took the first place ticket, these later sold for £142. Best Texels with singles in excess of £130. A few older sheep forward, saw Mule Shearlings and 1 crops with Twins sell to £160 from Alec Sutcliffe, broken mouth ewes with singles to £152 from RG & H Preece.
