On Saturday 4th July 2015 North West Auctions conducted the major reduction sale of the renowned Murthwaite fell ponies at J36 Rural Auction Centre on behalf of the late Thomas Capstick. The sale attracted a huge amount of interest from throughout the UK, Europe and America.

Thomas had a great passion for Fell ponies and was renowned for breeding some tremendous ponies. Thomas got his first fell pony at the age of 12 and it is the first time in 52 years that there hasn’t been a Murthwaite pony on the Howgill Fells.
The sale exceeded everybody’s expectations with the auction mart being full to the rafters, one of the busiest sales since the new auction opened. The sale sold to a top price of 7,000gns for the Grey Mare Murthwaite Mercy who was sold to Florida.

Murthwaite Bracken’s Lass sold to 6,600gn with a Black filly foal Murthwaite Heather at foot. This was closely followed by a family favourite Murthwaite Jessica Ennis selling for 4,000gn. A 100% clearance rate with all ponies finding new homes throughout the UK, America and Her Majesty the Queen averaging over £2,000.

One of the busiest days ay J36 today a tremendous turn out of people which made a fantastic atmosphere, Thomas would of been so proud, his Murthwaite fell ponies were a credit to him and his family.
