DJ & S Tomlinson Break Market Record at NWA Lancaster

The April dairy sale saw a fantastic entry of cattle with 61 cows and heifers forward, with buyers in attendance from Carlisle to Carmarthen.

Judging this month was conducted by the very capable Philip Halhead, of Norbreck Genetics. The Champion rosette was awarded to DJ & S Tomlinson, Bilsrow Herd with, Bilsrow Alexander Iloa, a daughter of G ST Alexander, giving 35litres, she later sold to a final bid of £3400, achieving a new market record, selling to the judge.

The Reserve Champion rosette was awarded to the first place non-halter led heifer, Avenham Glad Rolls, from James and Anne Rogerson’s Avenham Herd, giving 39litres she sold to a final call of £3200 to JS & A Whitehurst, Uttoxeter.

Also selling to JS & A Whitehurst was Bilsrow Buckeye Seagull, who made up the second half of the best pairs, achieving £3200.

In the cow class, first place was again awarded to James & Anne Rogerson with Avenham Wisconsin Rhapsody a VG85 second calver, selling to £2320.

With 29 of the 61 forward selling above £2100, an overall market average of £2174 for pedigree heifers and £2181 for cows.

Non pedigree heifers sold to a top of £2250 from Strickland Hill Farming, with non-pedigree cows from G & AE Smith selling to £2320. Two Montbeliarde heifers from T & ME Johnson, Askham in Furness sold to £1680 & £1500.
