Prime Lambs

Not as many hoggs forward this morning sold to a full ringside of buyers. Trade topped at 225ppk from V & EJ Chadwick & Sons, Sowerby. An overall market SQQ of 211ppk was achieved, 9ppk better on the week, with the majority of lambs selling well above the £2/kg mark. Suffolks sold to a top of £108 for heavy weight hoggs from WN & D Smith & Sons, Cocker House Farm. Or 215ppk from J Bargh & Son, Heaton with Oxcliffe for 40-42kg Suffolks. Texels sold to £104 V & EJ Chardwick & Sons, for a pair of 54kg hoggs. Charollais from Cardwell farms sold to £97. Cheviots from KM & KJ Curwin of Marshaw, sold to a top of £95/head with others from Messers Bargh at £88.50. Horned lambs again from Messers Curwin sold to £87/head.

Cast Sheep

Trade topped at £140 for a texel ewe from GR Newsham, Galgate. Suffolks sold to £82 from S Wilson & Son. Mules reached a top £79 from R I Wilson, Scotforth, with others from DJ Casson & Son, Beaumont Gate at £75 and £73. All cast sheep forward sold to a market average £64, a fraction better on the week.

Prime Bulls

A nice entry of bulls this morning sold to a top of 201.5ppk for a 630kg Charollais S & BM Lawrenson & Son, Eagland Hill. Limousins from the same home sold to 194.5ppk. British Blues from JM & AG Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe.

Sheep and Lambs

With a larger entry forward and buyers for all classes’ ringside, trade continued to be firm throughout. Topping today’s trade was S. Rossall, Over Wyresdale, with a pen of 5 full Mouth Texel Ewes with Blue D’Maine twins at foot, selling to £195/outfit. Ewes with Single lambs topped at £148/outfit for a full mouthed Suffolk x ewe with strong Texel lamb.

Correct Mashams sold to £150 with twins, from DC Miller, Cobble hey. Aged Mules sold to £150 with twins and £115 with singles, both from G & M Robinson, Longfield House.
