The pre-sale judging took place as usual on the Friday evening with a packed house enjoying the usual high standard of show sheep going through the ring. The judging of the lambs was in the very capable hands of Mr Philip Elliot and Mr Martin Brown who had some 25 pens of lambs to judge and after careful deliberation they awarded the overall champion rosette and the Goad memorial trophy to an outstanding pen of lambs from Mr Andrew Gibson and Family of Longwell Farm, Selside and the Jim Gibson memorial trophy went to Mr David Watson and the family of Middleton Hall, Kirkby Lonsdale for the first prize pen of 20 lambs.

The sale day got underway with a full ringside of buyers from throughout the country and as per usual the quality of lambs on offer was up to its usual high standards even though most vendors lambs would be slightly smaller in size after a very slow start to the growing season in Spring.

Strong tupping hoggs were easier on the year due to a lack of finances after a costly spring and a very mixed trade for those men who have been selling shearlings overall a very satisfactory trade was seen for a total clearance of lambs.
