CATTLE TRADE TREMENDOUS AT LANCASTER

As expected Lancaster enjoyed a wonderful trade on Friday. A reduced entry of 72 cast Cows remained a strong trade averaging 135.24p per kg. Of course it is the bottom line that counts and cows averaged over £795 for what was a plainer entry on the whole. Again there was a huge ring of active buyers.

A top price of £1231 went to Messrs Sutcliffe of Lathwaite for a tremendous HF Cow. Cows also sold to 194.50p/ kg to J W Thwaites, Eskew Beck for a Simmental Cow.

STORE CATTLE:

A catalogue entry of 277 store cattle continued to attract premium prices. There were more customers around the ring and although some classes were just a shade easier, many long keep cattle were still a very good trade.

A top price of £1430 went to R & DM Rossall, Abrams Farm for a superb pen of British Blue x Heifers. Close behind at £1420 was a pen of British Blue Bullocks from the same vendor.

In the calf ring there were 45 calves and stirks forward to a packed ringside of customers. Stirks sold to £565 for Angus x Bullock Stirks from Messrs Young, Moss End. Young Calves sold to a top of £360 for a British Blue Heifer from Messrs Sharpe, Flodder Hall. More calves were needed on the day
