LANCASTER BREEDING SHEEP SALE

CHAMPION SHEARLINGS £200 AT POPULAR LOCAL SALE

The annual show & sale of breeding sheep at Lancaster saw a ringside full of buyers all keen to purchase sheep from this sale which is renowned for its quality sheep from regular vendors.

Judging was conducted by Mr Robert Moran, Hellifield who had a strong entry of sheep put before him to judge. He awarded the sale day Championship to a pen of ten Mule Shearlings from JK & BE Townley, Mearsbeck which later sold for the day’s top price of £200 to CM & CA Jackson.

It was commented throughout the sale as to the high quality of sheep presented, congratulations to all vendors with Mule shearlings averaging £151 (+£9 on 2011). Continental shearlings sold to £162 for ¾ bred Texels from CB Hoggarth and £130 for Suffolk x.

Only a small entry of ewes forward, insufficient for demand and these sold to £110 for 3 crop Mules from JS & S Atkinson and £92 for 4 crop Mules from WA & A Booth.
