STRONG TRADE FOR DAIRY CATTLE AT LANCASTER – COLLECTIVE SALE HEIFERS TO £2,500

NWA Lancaster – Dairy Sale Report July 2012

Despite the weather conditions and the recent milk price drop, a very pleasing sale was held with all vendors happy with prices achieved and buyers keen to invest in herd replacements. Judging this month was Mr Thomas Forrester, Carlisle who had over 15 animals presented before him in 3 show classes. After much consideration, he awarded the Show Championship to J & M Sanderson, who presented their heifer Sandcrest Mist 12 in superb sale condition. The Reserve rosette was won by J Burrow & Son for their halter led heifer Stardale Minister Honeybee 2. James Burrow led the way in prices with his reserve champion heifer, being 17 days calved, selling to £2,500 to N & K Forshaw, Longridge. £2,280 was paid for the show champion which was bred from 2 generations of VG/EX, giving 30 litres. She was purchased by J B & J B Lawson, Cockerham.

Other notable prices were £2,000 for Witherslack Buckeye Liz from J D & C L Inman purchased by R H & J Vickery, Billington and £1920 for Hailstone Pagewire Omen from G & A E Smith & Sons which was purchased by N & K Forshaw.

This sale saw keen interest in heifers showing British Friesian traits with J B & C Lamb selling to £1720.

A consignment of In-Calf Heifers were the surprise of the day, selling to £1580 from J J & P J Billington.

Our thanks to the pre-sale judge, Mr Thomas Forrester of Carlisle and to the show and sale sponsors, Dectomax – Wynnstay (J Hatton Agriculture); Ribble Fuel Oils and Marr & MacGregor Nutrition.
