Lancaster Monday 19/09/11 dairy cattle

12 CATTLE OVER £2,000
BULL CHAMPION SELLS FOR £2,780

North West Auctions Lancaster held its popular monthly dairy sale with a catalogued entry of 82 cattle forward attracting 25 purchasers from adjacent counties and further afield.  The judging this month was conducted by Mr Matthew Armour of Dumfries who had a strong entry of cattle presented before him including the annual show of Holstein bulls.  The Champion of the day was awarded to a newly calved cow Saltoke Eva 16 (VG85) produced by W & C Gorst & Sons, Hole of Ellel, three weeks calved giving 38 litres she sold for £2250 to Swinson Cattle Company.  Reserve honours went to newly calved heifer Alandrew Windy Moss from G & AE Smith, Mount Pleasant, two weeks calved giving 38 litres she sold for  a final price of £2150 to Mr A Greenhalgh.   (Photo 1 above shows the Champion cow with Richard Gosrt (vendor) and Matthew Armour (judge).

The annual show & sale of bulls attracted a quality entry with the show champion Sandley Korona from GH Sanderson & Family, Blackleach House Farm selling for the days top price of £2780 to PJ & P Mason.  (Photo 2 above shows the Champion bull with George Sanderson (vendor) and Matthew Armour (judge).  £1800 was achieved for the reserve champion Stardale Xavi from J Burrow & Son, Tunsteads Farm.  

A feature of this sale was a consignment of in-calf heifers from Messes FW Herd & Son, Hilderstone Farm which sold to a competitive ringside of buyers topping at £1750 for a Genus Darita Curt sired heifer due mid October.
