Posted Tuesday, 28 June 2011, 2.24pm

On a red hot Monday at Lancaster an excellent entry of 42 cattle sold to a ringside of buyers from five counties with a 100% clearance achieved.  The new sale format suited purchasers and vendors alike with a sale atmosphere second to none.

The first animal in the ring set the tone for the sale, this being a newly calved heifer from the renowned Pennine herd selling for £2,200 to ME Wannop & Sons, Morecambe.

The day’s top price was achieved by the Show Champion from AR & J Whitlow, Preesall.  Arnot Carlina Red was bred from 8 generations VG/EX, 4 weeks calved giving 32 litres she sold for £2,400 to Wallbank Farms Ltd, Lancaster.

A special entry of in-calf heifers once again sold to a competitive trade with the consignment from J Gerrard & Son, Thurnham selling to £1,700.
