North West Auctions Kendal Mart had another pleasing entry of 2050 prime sheep on Tuesday. Lambs were better to sell than expected with the national trade being so steady. Lambs averaged 147p/kg for all breeds and grades. Top price of the day was 173p/kg (£71) for Texel lambs from JG & PH Thompson, Poppy Farm. These were purchased by local butcher Jim Hadwin of Mansergh.

Prime ewes continue to sell well each week in a competitive ring of buyers. Ewes averaged £48 including hill ewes. A top price of £86 went to Mrs JA Airey, Old Croft for Texel x ewes.

Earlier in the day a larger show of dairy cows & heifers were forward at the fortnightly dairy sale. Top price of £1560 was paid for a freshly calved heifer from WH & JM Robinson, Dove House being 10 days calved giving 36 ltrs. 9 cows & heifers averaged £1120.
