Kendal Friday 24/09 Swaledale & BFL Sheep

Posted Monday, 27 September 2010, 11.55am

North West Auctions Kendal Mart held their Annual Prize Show & Sale of Draft Swaledale Breeding ewes together with Bluefaced Leicester Rams. A reduced entry of females and a packed ring of buyers meant that trade was always going to be very strong. Swaledale ewes averaged £93 selling to a top price of £130 for ewes from E & A Wear, Grove Farm. Swale gimmer shearlings sold to £122 from JA Swift, Dry Howe. Bluefaced Leicester rams also drew buyers from around the Northern counties and these were a very straight trade. Three vendors topped the trade for shearling rams at £450.
Mr Ian Dixon, Low Newton kindly judged the Swaledale show and Mr Rod Dixon of Longsleddale judged the Leicester rams.
